Skim milk or Whole milk?

Skim milk or Whole milk?

Studies have shown that adults and children who drink skim milk gain more weight than those who drink whole milk.

It’s true that skim milk is lower in calories. However, this leads to a craving in more food afterwards. Whole milk is more filling and nutritious with vitamins dissolved into the cream part of the milk.

Why does skim milk cause us to overeat? Firstly, the fat, which helps us feel fuller for longer, is commonly replaced with sugars and flavourings. This can lead to food cravings, weight gain, inflammation and other issues.

Whole milk naturally contains fat-soluble vitamins A and D. In Skim milk, however, these vitamins and healthy fats are skimmed off.

This is why manufacturers need to fortify the vitamins back into the skim milk (listed as 'fortified vitamins' in the ingredient list). Even then, these fortified vitamins cannot be properly absorbed due to the absence of milk fat.

What's worse is that the process of skimming milk utilises harmful chemicals. Some chemical residues can remain in your skim milk, causing more inflammation and weight gain.

Skim milk does have a higher protein content because of the reduced fat content. However, it is the high inflammatory proteins in skim milk which can lead to increased inflammation and allergy susceptibilities.

Bottom line, skim milk may not always be suitable for you and whole milk may not be suitable for everybody as well.
