Reading Food labels

Updated: Jun 1, 2023

The Number Five Rule

When you want to quickly know whether a food product is healthy or not, it is important to read food labels efficiently.

Firstly, look at the Ingredients list. Check that the food product has less than 5 ingredients that are made from real foods (not food chemicals or E numbers).

Secondly, look at the Nutritional Information table which is usually found at the back of a food package. Look at the 100g column to get the percentage of nutrients (protein, sugar, fibre, etc).

The Number 5 Rule

Reading a food label is easy when you can remember what we have formulated The Number 5 Rule.

Look for:

less than 5 ingredients

less than 5% sugar

more than 5% protein

more than 5% fibre
