Lapses in a Healthy Diet

Who hasn’t lapsed on a healthy diet?

Let us start by defining “A Healthy Diet”.

A healthy diet is balanced in the intake of macronutrients and micronutrients to support our physiological needs. Macronutrients including carbohydrates, proteins and fats provide the body with the needed energy for daily human functioning. Micronutrients including vitamins and minerals are also needed and work in synergy with macronutrients.

A healthy diet involves an individualised meal plan to meet daily energy, macronutrient and micronutrient needs while maintaining a healthy weight.

To successfully go through a weight loss program and lose weight, adherence to your individualised meal plan is needed. Dietary lapses, known as drifting away from the individualised meal plan, do frequently occur and normally happen due to several reasons such as food deprivation, loneliness, boredom or increased hunger.

Luckily, we can help you prevent relapsing via cognitive and behavioural strategies. One of these strategies includes minimising high-risk situations where you are likely to relapse.

View each mistake on a diet as a learning opportunity, not a personal failure. The key is to pick yourself back up and not let that slip become a slide.

Now, how can you deal with the negative thoughts that accompany you after a relapse? Well, previous evidence has shown that expert help is needed to deal with these emotions, and that’s why we are here to help! We can together focus on cognitive therapy for relapse treatment including dealing with emotional fear, learning from the setbacks and learning how to become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Ever messed up your healthy diet? If yes, then do not worry you are not the only one! It is a totally normal process that can occur to anyone working towards better health. Luckily, we are here to help you overcome the relapse and learn from the setbacks to get back on track.
