Butter vs. Margarine
Margarine is a new addition to our food selection.
It is usually made from cheap vegetable oils such as canola oil and sunflower oil - unless it is made from a superior olive oil spread.
Margarine can contribute to your weight gain and obesity if you regularly consume it.
Margarine contains trans-fat which raises bad cholesterol. This is a concern. Margarine also contains bad polyunsaturated fats.
Margarine contains unhealthy additives that could trigger allergies. Studies have shown that margarine intake worsens children with eczema and other allergy-type problems.
Cholesterol in butter?
You may have heard that butter contains too much cholesterol. Butter contains dietary cholesterol but this doesn’t turn into blood cholesterol.
Butter has been consumed for literally thousands of years and is produced from the churning of milk.
Butter contains healthy fats coming from saturated fat needed to absorb fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K for good health.
Butter contains more minerals (calcium, magnesium, phosphorus) than margarine. It doesn’t contain bad additives that margarine has.
Don’t be afraid to eat real food. Cook with butter and enjoy its wholesome flavour.
Happy eating,
