We tend to drink less water during the winter season. Staying hydrated all year long means environmental changes will less likely impact our internal body system.
Surprisingly, water not only hydrates, but also energises. This is why our body’s thirst and hungers signals are similar. If you experience constant tiredness, water is a combat for this.
A dry mouth is the last sign our bodies give when we are in a state of chronic dehydration. Constant migraines, tiredness, depression, stress and constipation are other manifestations of a dehydrated state.
Begin to master the habit of drinking water upon waking up and throughout your day.
Water acts as an appetite suppressant for weight loss. It is the true magic formula for weight loss, anti-ageing skin, pain relief and more!
Does water taste too bland?
Here are my favourite ways to hydrate without having to drink bland water.
1. If you are not fond of plain water, begin to flavour your water with your own combination of fruits, vegetables and herbs. Great options include lemon juice, pineapple juice, watermelon juice, mint, cucumber, rosemary, parsley leaves or other herbs to naturally filter and flavour your water.
2. Did you know that Herbal teas (not caffeinated tea) such as peppermint, chamomile, ginger, lemongrass, rose, nettle, yensoon or licorice root tea can replace water intake. Enjoy herbal teas any time of day as a water replacement. Black tea, green tea or Earl grey do not replace water intake as they contain caffeine therefore, it is best to limit them.
3. Coconut water or plain watermelon juice are excellent ways to restore electrolytes in the body without having to buy electrolyte drinks (filled with sugars, colours and preservatives).
Aim for at least two litres of water daily. If you are exercising, then aim for three litres of water because a hydrated body is a healthy body.
