Calorie counting may help those wanting to control food portions and energy levels. But calorie counting is not realistic and very limiting.
Food is more than a number. It is genetic information, antioxidants, vitamins, fibre, protein, water and more. These factors impact our health, energy and weight more than calories.
Here are reasons why calorie counting can be useless and even detrimental to your health:
1. Calorie counting is not realistic and sustainable. It may increase anxiety concerning your weight loss and body image.
2. Calorie counting doesn't take into account the quality of your food. It can only calculate the quantity of potential energy. And as we all know its all about quality, not quantity. An apple of 70 calories will be more weight reducing than a 0 calorie protein bar containing nasty food additives. 3. Calories don't take into account the fibre, energising vitamins and water that significantly impacts our weight loss. 4. It is time consuming. You want a healthy relationship with food and you want to make every meal a good experience, not a time-consuming and mathematical one. Real food is a blessing, not a number. Happy eating,
