Flavoured or Unflavoured?
There is a big difference in quality between flavoured and unflavoured foods and it can significantly impact your weight and your overall health.
Let’s reflect…
What do we do when a cooking is ruined or a food doesn’t taste good? We either throw it out or add flavouring to make it taste better. What type of flavouring do we use? Sugar, salt, spices, MSG (Maggi, Vegeta), etc.
The same concept of flavouring can work in food manufacturing to avoid wastage of poor tasting food or poor quality food.
Flavoured foods - supermarket products or take-out food - often contain added flavourings and other artificial ingredients to mask the taste and aroma of poor quality food. Flavourings are usually derived from MSG (monosodium glutamate) to make food smell, taste and look irresistible. It has been shown to increase weight gain, worsen asthma and eczema and cause headaches, diarrhoea, heart palpitations, nausea, depression and more!
Unflavoured foods - tend to be of better food quality because it does not need the addition of flavourings to mask the original flavour of the food.
Do you dislike unflavoured foods because they taste too bland?
We have a solution for you. Select the unflavoured foods and add your own herbs and spices for flavourings.
Do you prefer chili flavoured popcorn over plain popcorn?
Try flavouring your plain popcorn with cayenne pepper or Paprika for your own safer option to avoid excess ingredients that compromise on your health.
Happy eating,
