Fight COVID Fast

The Coronavirus has been shown to cause microbial imbalance in the digestive system. The loss of beneficial bacteria can cause a leaky gut.

A leaky gut means there are holes in the digestive system, allowing toxins and undigested food to enter our blood without their permission. This can trigger the immune system to fight its own tissues, causing autoimmunity.

Other potential causes of leaky gut besides coronavirus are: refined sugar, gluten, cows milk, alcohol, some artificial food additives and your own hidden food intolerances which you may have. A food intolerance test can help you identify these hidden food intolerances.

Can you heal a leaky gut?

It is possible, so long as you can restore the good microbes (probiotics) found in your digestive system and on your skin.

How can we restore microbial imbalance so that a leaky gut is healed?

Firstly, the cause of leaky gut should be removed. If you happen to consume too much white sugar, this will be your primary cause of a leaky gut.

Here are our 3 nutritional tips to restore microbial imbalance and heal a leaky gut:

1. Include probiotic foods - probiotic foods are fermented foods such as yoghurt, apple cider vinegar and pickled vegetables (gherkins, sauerkraut). Our favourite probiotic food is coconut yoghurt. Find those with a multi-strain of probiotics in the ingredients list. More strains of bacteria mean more benefits.

2. Begin a weekly body detox through intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is one of the most effective ways to restore gut microbes. Fasting means bodily healing. Ensure you are being monitored as you fast to ensure it is being conducted correctly.

3. Drink herbal teas and avoid caffeinated teas (such as black tea, green tea, oolong tea, Earl Grey). Caffeine dehydrates the body. Herbal teas hydrate the body, while also providing antiviral benefits from the herbs and spices you add to your tea.
