Boost Your Immunity Daily

Here are our 8 Tips to Boost Your Immunity in Winter

1. Ditch refined sugars (white sugar, brown sugar, caster sugar, syrups, etc). Did you know that 1 teaspoon of sugar can suppress your immune system by 50%. 2 teaspoons can suppress your immune system by 80%! Sugar is a big immunity killer.

2. Soak up vitamin D from direct sunlight exposure. Vitamin D helps to strengthen the immune system to ward off viruses and bad bacteria.

3. Increase vitamin C intake coming from fresh fruits and vegetables such as capsicum, parsley, lemon, orange and kiwi fruit. Vitamin C supports the immune system by lowering histamine levels to reduce allergies and hay fever.

4. Consume probiotics which are live bacteria coming from yoghurt, kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi and other fermented foods. Our favourite probiotic is coconut yoghurt. Good bacteria is the foundation for good immunity.

5. Increase zinc intake to improve immune function and fight infections.

6. Nasal breathing helps to increase oxygen intake more than mouth breathing. This is important so that the immune system can function optimally and be able to fight infections. Without sufficient oxygen cancer cells, viruses and bad bacteria can grow rapidly and the immune system functions less efficiently.

7. Begin a weekly body detox through intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting is one of the most effective ways to upgrade our immune system. Fasting means bodily healing and that includes healing a weakened immune system.

8. Drink herbal teas and avoid caffeinated teas. Herbal teas include chamomile tea, nettle tea, cinnamon tea, ginger tea and clove tea. Caffeinated teas include black tea, green tea, oolong tea and Earl Grey. Caffeine dehydrates the body. Herbal teas hydrate the body, while also providing antiviral benefits from the herbs and spices you add to your teas.
